March 2026 update
It’s been a long time since I’ve updated my blog or social media, but I'm still here, editing and proofreading. I just haven’t been talking about it online. 😊
A little over a year ago, I began working for small publishing houses as a proofreader, which branched into copyediting. The work has been very fulfilling, and I learn something new with every project I work on. I've also received some great positive feedback from the publishers and authors I've worked with, which I'm happy about as it's a privilege to be able to help authors strengthen their stories and prepare them for publication.
For example, here is what Jenny Hale, the Founder and Director of Harpeth Road Press and a USA Today bestselling author, had to say about my work:
“Kendra Olson's meticulous eye for detail elevates every story she touches. I highly recommend her for your next project."
I was absolutely thrilled to receive her feedback on my work, and have so enjoyed all of the stories I’ve worked on for Harpeth Road Press (you can find a list of these titles on my Proofreading page, here: https://www.kendraolsoneditorial.com/proofreading).
One thing I’ve learned about myself as an editor and proofreader over the last year is that I prefer to work on cosy fiction. This isn’t because I dislike other kinds of stories – I genuinely love all kinds of fiction and read widely, including nonfiction titles – but because editing and proofreading take time, energy, and focus, I would rather work on stories that uplift me at the end of the day (we’re living through such difficult times).
If you’ve had a look around my website recently, you might have noticed that I’ve changed my preferred genres to cosy mysteries, cosy romances, cosy fantasy novels (notice the theme?), family sagas, historical stories about everyday people, and so-called women’s fiction. So, if you write in one of these genres and are looking for an editor or proofreader, I’d love to hear from you! If you write in another genre and are looking for an editor, we might still be a good fit, though, so feel free to send me an email, if you’d like to. 😊
Another change is that I’m currently focusing on proofreading and proof-editing (light copyediting), though I am still offering developmental editing, outline reviews, and book coaching for independent authors. While I love helping authors strengthen their early drafts, it’s also exciting to see novels that are almost ready to be published. Additionally, working with novels at different stages of the publication process helps me get a better understanding of how issues that crop up at one stage of editing could ripple through to subsequent rounds of editing and proofreading. Getting a fuller picture of the challenges an author might face at different points in their publication journey also helps to strengthen my skills as an editor and proofreader.
Anyway, I just thought I'd post a brief update, since it's been awhile. 😊
I hope that all my readers are doing well. Please feel free to email me to let me know your news (you can find my contact form here: https://www.kendraolsoneditorial.com/contact).
Until next time!
